"But, they're for kids who don't have binks!"

Last weekend we decided that Hailey is getting too old to have her bikny and it was time to ween her off of it. We had set a goal that by Christmas she wouldn't have her bink anymore....we did it on a weekend so that Dave could be home and we could switch off throughout the night. We prepared her for it all week and told her it was coming. I took her to WalMart and she picked out a doll with snap on clothes that looked so cute. I put it in a place of prominence and told her she would be trading me all her pacifiers for the new doll. That afternoon we gathered all of her binks and put them in a box. I wrapped it up, telling her it was for kids who don't have binks (we had just bought a present for Toys4Tots and I was trying to keep along that vein of giving) Then she gave me all her binks in a brightly wrapped box and I gave her the new dolly. That night as she went to bed she wanted nothing to do with the doll and screamed for her bink! It was so sad. :( I laid next to her and told her stories, but she wanted her bink, not me! She finally fell asleep, but woke up in the middle of the night crying for it again! The next morning her voice was hoarse from crying for so long! The next night wasn't as bad, only about 20 minutes of whining before she fell asleep and then the third night wasn't a problem at all! I am thinking that I really don't want to go through that ever again and I am already contemplating taking it away from Preston earlier...but Dave did say we can do one awful night with each child, it won't be that bad...hopefully I will forget!

You are so awesome! I've been thinking about how to take the beloved bink away from Briggie. Maybe I'll tell him the binky monster ate them :)

Daniel was almost 3 before we were able to kick his binky habit; luckily Laurel has just never cared for them. And, I'm glad you got your book - way to comment!

Binkies=Lifesavers. I am glad you stuck it out though. It will pay off.
