Ice Cream, for Breakfast?

I know that you are thinking, but please, I need some reinforcements on this one! Dave thinks that it is weird to have ice cream for breakfast. Now mind you, it is not a big bowl with chocolate syrup or anything. Growing up we would have Malt-O-Meal cereal and put ice cream on the top. It is very practical, it helps cool the hot cereal quickly and it makes it creamy without having to add milk. It has become a comfort food for me and I love it. I have passed this tradition onto Hailey and she loves it too. (I mean who wouldn't, it's ice cream!)So, tell me, am I the only one that does this?

I was NEVER a fan of oatmeal. I just never liked it....until....one summer in Arkansas I got an ice cream maker for my birthday. Well, we had cream in our fridge all the time for a while - so I started putting cream in my oatmeal. And WA-LA! I was a BELIEVER! Oatmeal is WAY better with cream - and I can very easily see the connection to ice cream. I think it's a go - as long as it's a small scoop!!!

Practical? Did you really just say practical? I'm totally siding with Dave on this one. Comfort food-ok, I'll give you that, but a healthy breakfast? No way! And the term "without having to add milk" like you've managed to avoide something terrible for your body, except you did add milk...and cream...and sugar...and chocolate, when you could have just added healthy milk. You crack me up!

You are not the only one. Just after Josh and I got married we were at a family reunion or something and they had Oatmeal and ice cream for breakfast. I thought it was weird and still do, mostly because I don't really like oatmeal. You are NOT the only one.

When my kids were growing up, the rule was no chocolate cereals for breakfast i.e. no cocoa puffs, chocolate cookie crunch, or whatever. So, even if it's not chocolate ice cream, I have to agree with David and Robin. Why encourage more tooth decay than you have to.

That's the first time I have heard of that, but it sounds yummy!

My question is, do you really want to give your kids that much sugar in the morning? They'll run you ragged all day!

I've never done it before, but it sounds yummy!

You are the coolest mom EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! Forget the naysayers...your children will cherish those mornings! My mom used to let us hide in the closet while my dad left for work and we'd play hookey from school. Other parents I'm sure would say it was horrible, but those are my FONDEST memories!! My mother ASKING me to stay home from school because she missed me too much the day before. I felt so special! So, I say sugar them up really good!! They will be better because of it because they will remember that their mother loved them and was so cool that she gave them ice cream for breakfast! That compared to a slight possibility of a cavity (which I'm sure won't happen with good dental hygiene) is not EVEN an argument. You rock, my Belle!! Tell Dave to stop being a Kill Joy! :) Love you!

I am chatting with Troy and told him about your post and how aggravated I am at the negative comments about cavities and such, and he said, "Tell her i miss her and she totally rocks in my parent rule book too! that's so awesome. i feel the love from her love that's shown Hailey." So, you get props from IRAQ!! Tell Dave Iraq comments trump Utah comments. You win. ;)
