I don't mean to brag, I am just very proud of myself. I have wanted to make Dave something to honor his mission and to show him some love, but haven't really had the time, or help. This year since I am close to my Grandma's house and was inspired by a comment from my MIL about making Christmas gifts for your spouse, I decided to make Dave a quilt. I have been collecting Asian fabric since we first got married and pulled them all out, as well as dug into my Grandma's plethora of fabrics. My grandma helped me design it, figure out measurements, cut and even provide a secret hiding place to stash the quilt in the making as well as providing an excuse to go over and clean her house and then spend some time sewing. My mom and I finished the borders and put the top together on Christmas Eve. It was quite the project, but it all worked out! My very talented Auntie (AKA the Queen Mother) did the machine quilting on the top and it turned out better than I could have imagined! I love it! I envisioned as I was sewing it that Dave and I would be able to snuggle under it, spend late nights talking while under it, read books, on Saturday mornings play on it with the kids and create good memories with the quilt. All of those things have happened so far. Dave loves it even more now that it is all done and we can use it daily. I didn't finish binding it until Jan.25th, so it took a little while... but I am just happy with myself, having 2 kids, working and still managing to get this quilt sewn AND keep it a secret from Dave! Love you, honey!
