My brothers were both over for a family dinner last night and had a bit of fun with using Hailey as a ball to pass her back and forth. She laughed and loved it. "More, More!" She kept saying long after they had finished. It is wonderful to have them over. Erick just got a job managing a branch of a regional trucking company in Colorado. We don't get to see him as much any more. :( He came today and took Hailey out to McDonalds (I know it is against my better mothering judgement to allow her to go on the Sabbath, but I thought I could make the exception since I had to chauffer my grandparents to a wedding luncheon on Saturday and that is when he wanted to do it.) She of course got spoiled. He took her during her nap time and wanted to keep her longer, so he went and got her a blanket (a Dora sleeping bag) and princess sippy cup and new pacifers. And while she was shopping she saw Nemo fruit snacks and so she got those too! Needless to say with all of this, she still didn't take a nap today, there is too much to see when she is with Uncle E!
We are loving being Nursery Leaders. I know, I know we had our doubts! But I have found reasons to enjoy it even more. I love being with Dave all of church and getting to see him interact with the kids. He really is so good to them, they flock to him and it gives me that warm loving feeling. Reminding me of how wonderful of a dad he is to our children. I like to see how Hailey interacts witht the kids and see what she does in a social situation. We just got 3 new kids who moved in. Increasing our nursery class by almost 50%! So this is where you, the reader, come in. I really want to make it fun for the kids and in turn more fun for us, so I am asking for advice on things you have seen done, or what you did. Right now it is just play, lesson and snack. We have added more singing time, but would love ideas of songs with props or something....please leave me ideas in the comments or email me. Thanks!

Here are some ideas:
I loved it when I saw that they set up little chairs for the kids and had them sit on them and had Book of mormom reading time. (Just that easiest board book). It was for ONE minute but they inforced the rule that they sit and listen. I think it was really good for the kids. To learn that they need to sit on a chair. But it was age appropriate.
I also like marching/dancing time. They got classical music- and marched around the room What is that song that sounds like cannons going off?). They did the same song every week. Then they handed out scarfs and let them wave them around during softer classical music.
It just helps having different things to do. Mix it up but do the same schedule every week. Have toys, snacks, BofM, dancing, then have lesson, singing or whatever.
I also liked that they would be blowing bubbles at the end so that if a kid is not the first one picked up they are still having fun.
I am sure you you do a great job whatever you do.
Michelle, I love your cute blog. You look fantastic. I wish we were closer so we could play. Your kids are adorable. LOVE the bubble bath! haha.
Sorry, I've never been in nursery so I have no ideas (can you believe it? 27 and never in nursery!) But that video was adorable!! How fun to spend time with your bros (who look a lot older, by the way!)
So Anthony asks to watch this over and over and over. He was trying to get Chris to show it to him and wasn't having any luck because he told him it was on Micelle's blog, but my SIL's name is Michelle. Anthony was very frustrated. It was funny. But Anthony loved watching the clip. :D
About nursery. When I was in there, we made fishing poles with a magnet on the end (just strings with a magnet) Then the fish were laminated and had a paper clip on them. They loved it.
Also, I think on the nursery that comes with or used to come with the manuel there was an Trip to the zoo thing on there. It was fun because you would act out a visit to the zoo and act out the animals like the monkeys and elephants and the kids thought it was great fun. I am glad that you are enjoying the calling.
Clairifacation- I was talking about the Nursery cd or tape that used to come with the old manuel.
Hey good news! The wedding we were coming out for in April is now in December. Yeah! Hopefully you will have a minute that we can get together.
I was nursery leader in Alabama for a while last year. I found that if I stuck to a strict schedule, the kids seemed to stay focused and got more out of it. We had the first half hour as play time, a ten-fifteen minute small motor skills (coloring, arts and crafts, etc.), ten-fifteen minutes for snack time, thirty-forty five minutes for large motor skills (went outside for nature walks, played ring around the rosey, went on walks through the hallways, then came back in for a VERY short lesson.
On colder days while walking through the hallways, I would make pictures of things for them to find...the water fountain, a picture on the wall, a door. They really liked this.
Also, one of the biggest hits of a lesson I did was talking about helping at home. I got a huge refrigerator box and cut out windows and doors, and had them help hang curtains and decorate it like their own little house. They LOVED IT!! I kept it in the room, and during play time from then on, they wanted to play house.
I bet you make the cutest nursery leader ever! You are such an amazing mom! I can't wait to see you and kiss your mommy face!!! :):) I love you, baby!
I just showed Mia this video - and she said "They're playing catch with Hailey!" Looks like fun :)
